The Perfect Fabric Weight I'm always worried that I'll lose it. I absolutely love this beanie. It covers a wide temperature range and doesn't itch like a heavier fabric. True, the size could be slightly larger, but I really don't notice it that much. It's much better than the ultra-light beanie, which is over-sized and good only in slightly chilly weather when you could almost do without one. January 15, 2013
Pleased I lost my old one Lost my original Chase beanie recently and I am delighted that it's replacement seems to have been made bigger so fits over the ears and further down the back of the neck. I find it perfect for winter road and mtb riding under a helmet. Comfortable when working hard and just to keep warm. Equally effective when sopping wet. Can never understand why the Aussie growers and wool industry industries couldn't have been as innovative as icebreaker July 2, 2012
Nice thin beanie I've recently been introduced to Icebreaker gear and bought this beanie as a thin, wool, layer to use under my helmet during cold weather. It's nice and thin, warm, and is the great Icebreaker quality that I would expect. February 25, 2011
great beanie! No toque is going to be ideal in all circumstances, but for me, the Chase Beanie was a great addition to my toque collection. I have a big-ish head for a woman (size M-L in bike helmets) and quite a bit of hair. I have trouble finding hats that cover my ears, and this one does the trick. (Consequently, you may want to look at a different hat if you're head is on the small side.) As the description says, it's better for intensity sports, shoulder seasons (at least for Canadians), or under a helmet. I've worn this over ear warmers before, too, since below -5°C or -10°C I don't think this would be warm enough. It sort of slips around a bit, but I'm not sure how to remedy that. As always, the wool is great. Love the "cadet" colour. February 6, 2013
Good, but small The Chase Beanie provides good insulation for the head when you need it in chilly weather. It makes for a great use if you are out backpacking at night or if you are going on a cold morning jog, or kayaking, etc. The main con is that it's just a little small. Granted, I have a larger than average size head, along with some thick hair on top of it, but the beanie does not come close to fully covering my ears; they usually just get covered about half way. So, more fabric to work with would be better; if it's ever too much or too long for anyone, the fabric could easily be folded back up providing a second layer of protection for the ears, if anything. But even as it is, it's still a breathable, insulating, odor-resistant merino wool piece, which surely counts for something. I wouldn't take it skiing or anything, but for cool-to-somewhat-cold-weather, moderate activities, this Icebreaker beanie can come in handy. July 2, 2012
nice, comfy beanie This is great for outdoor activities in spring and fall. I use it for running in lower (not freezing) temperatures. As always, Icebreaker's merino wool is high quality. Keeps you warm and comfy, but not uncomfortably hot like the synthetic fabrics. Runs slightly small for my 61 cms head. If you have a smaller head, it might be a better fit. June 20, 2011
A little protection for your head. Super thin merino hat that will keep the chill off your head if you are moving and sweating hard. Otherwise it is way to thin to just stand around in. Would work well under a helmet in moderate conditions. Personally I would choose the Icebreaker Pocket 200 over this hat for just about everything I do ( which is what I did do, the 200 is great!). Good for what it is. This hat has done a good job keeping my noggin warm. I've worn it mostly in the Bay Area, CA, where it gets chilly, windy, and damp, but not COLD. It is not large enough to fully cover my ears (the knit hats from IB do cover), and does tend to mess up the hair a bit. From a style viewpoint, the IB logo looks silly unless it is aligned even with your face. May 8, 2012
Icebreaker Unisex Chase Beanie I love almost all Icebreaker products, but this Beaning is just overall too small (doesn't cover enough of my head)and also too thin. Also, I don't like the "darts" at the top of the Beanine (i.e. the stitching). May 19, 2011
Too thin, too short and small. This doesn't come down far enough to keep my ears covered, and it also rides up pretty promptly. It's also very thin. All told, it's only useful for casual use on cool (not cold) days. November 2, 2011
